A few people were at the Lab through the afternoon and we discussed the Stack Exchange community and what else is out there. Topics were broad and was just a fun session.
I tore apart the Sony reel-to-reel (TC-330) and discovered someone else had been splicing cables. After soldering broken contacts back in place the unit powered on, however the motor was not turning (which is believe to be the problem). The cassette deck spun but I have to tapes to test the audio feed. A replacement motor (Sony IC-624H1) is not easy or cheap to get a hold of (it's half the cost of a fully functional, good condition unit) so I'd like to confirm it's the culprit (currently resting on top of the unit, under the 3D printer table.
I didn't know about this meet-up day so perhaps next time (provided we have a good meeting space) I can pass the word around earlier and post on other public pages.
