It should only be ~$3 person, not $10/day.
I'm not worried about the EZ Pass picking you up at speed - when has speed EVER been an issue going through the tunnels? I'm more worried about it double charging you if you're parked under the sensor for 30 minutes while they clear a wreck...
Not to stray too far into political territory, but if you're driving through the tunnel on a daily basis, you should be paying for the upgrade. I go through any of the tunnels maybe once a month, if that.
Move closer to work - the toll has the wonderful benefit of putting a negative emphasis on shit that's bad for the environment (and people's mental health) anyways - multi-hour, cross tunnel commutes shouldn't be encouraged.

My biggest complaint is that quite a few of the people who use the tunnels on a daily basis are military or (DoD contractors), and with the DoD getting huge cuts, the first thing that happens is COLA freezes. Even with all the benefits, the .mil pay isn't all that great, adding a $10/day bill on top of that just sucks. Even worse, when there's a government shutdown, the military still has to come to work, regardless of whether they're getting a paycheck.
