You are certainly correct.

I must be tired or something.

I just checked the admin guide for this server, and it does say to put 
in the FQDN.

For some reason I was thinking that you don't put anything in, if you 
are hosting multiple sites.

Anyhow, I have had this set previously, and never got through either, 
but at least it is no longer an issue.

I also checked the site referenced within my smtp session output, and 
how the mechanism is supposed to work.

I guess I will have to stop being lazy and actually do a full postfix 
install soon.
