Saw this today on Lockheed site:
"With a new school year underway, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics teams are gearing up for another year of designing and building robots in hopes of capturing the coveted FIRST National Championship title."
So is NPS going to start a little earlier this year???

'Danger, Will Robinson!' FIRST Robotics Teams Prepare for Upcoming Season
Mentors needed for fall competitions
With a new school year underway, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics teams are gearing up for another year of designing and building robots in hopes of capturing the coveted FIRST National Championship title.
Lockheed Martin has been an avid supporter of the FIRST program and its efforts to introduce K-12 students around the nation to science and technology fields. Through continuous financial support, volunteers and mentoring, the Corporation has demonstrated its dedication to promoting STEM (science, technology, education, math) education to todays youth, says Bill Flite, the Corporations national administrator for the FIRST program.
We currently have hundreds of dedicated Lockheed Martin volunteers who spend their evenings and weekends reaching out to these teams by helping them build and design their robots, says Flite. We want to build on those numbers and get more of the Lockheed Martin community involved in this fun and rewarding program.
Teams are currently preparing to compete in regional competitions which span from fall to winter. This year, teams are given the task of building an alliance of robots that can navigate a small- to medium-sized field and shoot as many balls into a goal as possible in an allotted time. The challenge will be in fending off the opposing teams robots and keeping them from turning over as they navigate the field. The robots must also be able to function both through the control of a team member as well as autonomously.
Our involvement with the FIRST teams last year garnered a lot of excitement from both the volunteers and the kids, says Flite. (See a video of the FIRST competition here.)
The season concludes at the FIRST Championship competition which will be held in April in St. Louis, Mo. More information on the program and information on volunteering can be found on the FIRST Robotics Unity site.
